Saved My Wet Cell Phone!!!

Phew!!!...finally...my cell phone was successfully up & out from the "pit" in the ladies washroom...I grabbed it went to turn on the tap...& ran some cool clean clear tap water over it for about 6 seconds while turning it all around... Wiped it really dry after the quick rinse. Flicking it up, down & sideways to get rid of the excess water. Tucked it into my handbag & drove home.

Got home...tried to turn it on but it was completely dead!!! So I went to charge it up. Wrong move...because it got really burning hot as it was charging...I probably barbecued some of the brain cells in the phone...

So I turned off the charger switch & pulled out the charger cord. Tried to turn it on again...the shinning little silver apple appeared... Hmmmm...it's still alive...after a while the 'slide to unlock' was visible. I slid it to the right...this time 'Enter Passcode' was visible. The key functions were responding really slow & that made it really hard to key in my Passcode...

Got my Passcode typed...& the whole screen looked like a world map...because of the water marks at the back ground...kinda cool looking...like a wall paper pattern...then it died again. Turned it on again...the silver apple appeared. Then it told me to connect to iTunes, backup & blah blah blah... So I went to turn on my laptop & I attached my cell phone to my laptop...it got really hot & died off!!! Oh boy!!!...that was another wrong move!!!

I remembered my friend told me once that he got his wet cell phone working again by leaving it in the rice container. So I quickly checked it out in Google & YouTube. Read through & watched the videos. I had decided to do the "rice remedy" as I had no other choice because my cell phone was completely dead already...

I went to my kitchen...took a plastic bag & filled it up with 6 scoops of white raw rice. Gently submerged my cell phone in it & tied a knot on the plastic bag. Left it there until the next day. Opened it up after about 6 hours or so... Turned it on...it was alive & it was back to normal... Then I went to charge it...this time it did not get hot. The world map was getting smaller...I guess the water marks evaporated in the rice.

The rice remedy truly works!!! Almost everything is back to normal...& no maps at all...except that I can't get into a few applications. I have a problem with my Wi-Fi slider...I can't slide it 'on'. I back-uped my cell phone but am not able to restore it because it said there isn't enough space!!!... Googled & YouTubed the Wi-Fi problem. Tried the 'Leave Cell Phone In The Freezer' method...it did not work for me...sigh...

It has been 4 days since my cell phone got out from its traumatic fall in the squatting toilet bowl... I have learnt so much within these few days. A very big 'Thank You' to those who had contributed their remedies in the internet. Most of the functions in my cell phone seems to be working fine & going pretty well...thank God for a speedy recovery!!! I am now quite happy with the situation. I will need to go to the Apple Store to get my "a little impaired" iPhone-4 fixed as soon as I get time off...

My Cell Phone In The Toilet Bowl!!!

Has anyone ever dropped your cell phone in the toilet bowl? Hmmmm...I just did yesterday...my cell phone slipped off from my back left pocket of my chestnut colored corduroy trousers. Maybe some of you out there may feel like how I felt... You know it was not just losing a cell phone...it was like "losing a life"... It was truly terrible & it took me so many long hours to get it back. Why so many hours?...because it dropped into the "squatting type toilet bowl" at my work place!!!

So I got frantic...my thoughts went wild!!!...OMG!!!...Oh no!!!...I can't lose all my contacts, my work, my data & my photos in my cell phone!!!...& without any hesitation...I just went down on my knees & laid flat on my left side of my body & shaft my whole left arm right into "it" up to my left shoulder...oh yes I did...& I tried to reach for my cell phone...but unfortunately unable to reach it...because it was probably more than 3 feet deep!!!...which I found out later!!!

Feeling very disappointed...I controlled my tears from ever forming...I retrieved my whole arm & stood up...took a deep breath & ran out of the public washroom like a crazy woman...trying to look for the janitor. Ran into one male janitor...told him what happened & he followed me back into the washroom. He went to the storeroom nearby to get a big black garbage bag to cover his right arm & inserted his arm in "it". He pulled his arm out...gave me a frowning look & told me that he couldn't reach anything.

Then I asked the janitor to get hold of the maintenance officer because I thought he could help by twisting off or sawing parts of the sewer pipe one floor below to get my cell phone. Well...what can I say?...desperation got the better of me... As we were walking briskly out of the washroom...we bumped into the Chief Maintenance Officer (CMO) who happened to be browsing through a newspaper at the news-stand store next to the washroom!!! What are the odds!!!...God bless me!!!

The CMO instructed the janitor to get the commercial vacuum to try to suck my cell phone out...but it kept on falling back down because it was way too heavy... After attempting 2 different huge commercial vacuums & failed...he said he was going to try using the rat glue & a mop stick instead... I told him that wouldn't be necessary & I suggested to him to try to help get a long pair of tongs instead...

As the clock was ticking...my heart was getting more faint thinking that my poor cell phone is so soaked up down under. I got hold of the maintenance officer's super powered torch light & aimed it straight down the toilet bowl...& there it was...my poor little cell phone half drowned in the water right at the bottom...only half visible because of the bottom L-shaped curve at the end of the pipe...there would have been signs of bubbles if it could breathe...sigh...... I asked 1 of the janitors to kindly help turn on the vacuum cleaner on again to suck the water out from soaking my cell phone...he did & it was totally consoling.

The CMO left the washroom to go buy the tongs. Suddenly...the whole washroom was silent... By then...there were 1 friend, 1 maintenance officer & 8 other janitors cramping up in the ladies washroom!!! The silence gathered my sanity...& the first thing that crossed my mind was...oh boy!!!...I need to get my left arm cleaned up!!!...

With my palm facing downwards...I drew my left hand closer...a little by a little towards my nose...I was trying to sniff it...it's not a very clever thing to do but I guess I just did it out of reflex...oh please don't ask why... Hmmmm...to my astonishment!!!...there was no foul smell at all other than a mere "chlorine water" smell. Kudos to the janitors...they do keep "them" sanitized!!! With my head held low...I slowly went to soap up...wash both my hands & arms...rinsed way up to my armpits.

Every minute seemed like an hour. It was getting from worrisome to dreadfulness...It felt precisely like someone's dying in the operation theatre & everybody is just waiting on outside...& the doctor is out somewhere hunting for a pair of surgical scissors...total frenzy!!! Phew!!!...The CMO finally came back in with a pair of 3-feet scissor-like-tong with lobster claws at the other end... The rescue project resumed... Within less than a minute...my cell phone was out!!!... Everyone rejoiced & applauded...they actually clapped their hands?...kinda weird...but...oh well...there I was...laughing & jumping with joy!!!

Thank God & thank you very much to all of you who were involved in the "rescue project"... :) :) :)

SUPERMOON SOLSTICE (2013)

On June 23rd 2013…the moon will be at its closest distance to Earth while in its full phase. It will appear 8 percent larger & 17 percent brighter than usual…an event widely known as a supermoon. Armchair astronomers can also catch the sky show virtually via a live high-definition webcast of the supermoon through SLOOH telescopes in the Canary Islands…off the coast of Africa…starting at 9 p.m. EDT or 6 p.m. PDT on June 23rd.

The monthly full moon always looks like a big disk…but because its orbit around the Earth is egg-shaped…there are times in the lunar cycle when the moon is at its shortest distance from Earth (called perigee) & times when the moon is at its farthest distance from Earth (called apogee). Likewise…because the size of the moon's orbit varies slightly…each month's perigee is not always the same distance from Earth.

Two years ago…the so-called supermoon was the closest it's been in two decades…only 356,575 kilometers from Earth.

For this 2013’s perigee…the moon will be a tad farther from us at 356,991 kilometers. That's a bit closer than the typical 364,000 kilometers distance…& is set to occur on June 23rd at 7:09 a.m. EDT. (The official full moon phase occurs at 7:32 a.m. EDT.)

Haze In Malaysia (2013)

The haze we see in our city skyline is caused by tiny particulates suspended in the atmosphere. At high concentrations…these particulates scatter & absorb sunlight resulting in diminished horizontal visibility thereby giving the atmosphere a characteristic opalescent appearance. Haze is not confined to urban environments…it may also be observed in rural areas.

The particles that cause the haze phenomenon can originate from many sources…some of which are natural & some anthropogenic. Natural sources include the oceans, forests & ground surface. However the majority of the particulates are from human activities which include open burning, land clearing, vehicular use & combustion of fossil fuels in industrial boilers.

The haze is getting worse by the day...

Not only it's hard to see...it's hard to breathe...

Here is what we used to wake up to...

Look at what we have to face now...

HAPPY SUMMER SOLSTICE!!! (2013)

HAPPY
SUMMER SOLSTICE
TO ALL!!!

The 2013 June or summer solstice takes place on Friday, June 21st, 2013 at 5:04 Universal Time (12:04 a.m. CDT). This solstice – which marks the beginning of summer in the Northern Hemisphere – marks the sun’s most northerly point in Earth’s sky. It’s an event celebrated by people throughout the ages.

It’s that beautiful time of year again in the Northern Hemisphere…when the June solstice – your signal to celebrate summer!!! This solstice marks the longest day of the year. Early dawns. Long days. Late sunsets. Short nights. The sun at its height each day…as it crosses the sky. Meanwhile…south of the equator…winter has begun.

What is a solstice?
Ancient cultures knew that the sun’s path across the sky…the length of daylight…& the location of the sunrise & sunset all shifted in a regular way throughout the year. They built monuments…such as Stonehenge…to follow the sun’s yearly progress. Today…we know that the solstice is an astronomical event…caused by Earth’s tilt on its axis & its motion in orbit around the sun.

Because Earth does not orbit upright. Instead…our world is tilted on its axis by 23-&-a-half degrees…Earth’s Northern & Southern Hemispheres trade places in receiving the sun’s light & warmth most directly.

At the June solstice…Earth is positioned in its orbit so that our world’s North Pole is leaning most toward the sun. As seen from Earth…the sun is directly overhead at noon 23.5 degrees north of the equator…at an imaginary line encircling the globe known as the Tropic of Cancer – named after the Constellation Cancer the Crab. This is as far north as the sun ever gets.

All locations north of the equator have days longer than 12 hours at the June solstice. Meanwhile…all locations south of the equator have days shorter than 12 hours.
